A life's journey

Hi! I am Elizabeth Phillips. Two of a Kind Pottery evolved out of a lifelong goal to set up my own pottery studio.  I was introduced to clay as a teenager and it guided me on my life's path. Pursuing my art degree, with a concentration in ceramics, opened up the world of art, history, and the importance of community. Teaching became a huge part of my life, led to a masters degree in art education and in my becoming an art teacher.  Now, I am raising my child, who is my two in “two of a kind”, and making pots in my studio.

Pottery has always been my foundation, a part of me along the journey. Life has brought me full circle, back to my roots as a studio potter and I am so grateful to be working with clay once again.

Each piece of Two of a Kind Pottery is complementary to another: similar, but unique...a relationship, a life shared. I make vessels for daily use and gatherings with loved ones, to be filled with delicious things that nourish our souls. My hope is to bring people together - face to face, cup to cup, appreciating each other and the handmade objects in their service.

The forms and surfaces of my pots are inspired by the often subtle beauty in nature. Flowing water, hidden patterns, soft curves, erosion, spots of color floating in a sea of earth tones. My pottery evokes a sense of quiet naturalness, a tactility and intimacy that elicits a pause... a small moment in your busy day to enjoy a sip from your mug or share food with others...and be thankful.
